This is my Theater!
This is the cast of the Brevard County Summer Fine Arts Program’s show of West Side Story. The kids on the stage are my family. This year was my first year in the program, and as a Thespian i must say, it was the best experience of my 9 years of theater. The people that come together and have 5 weeks to put on a great performance, these people are legit. They care about performing, and arn’t one of those kids who is like “whatever” to the show. They choose to be there and work their hardest for it. I was cast in the chorus of the show but i have learned so much by just watching the other actors. I had made so many friends during SFA and the show was amazing!
Sadly, after 28 years, SFA is coming to a close. The school board decided to shut down the program. It didn’t hit me that it was the end untill i saw a student made video. It hurts knowing that we can’t do it anymore. Us Thespians are fighting to keep the program alive. It makes me angry knowing sports have enough money for camps and such, but we have to sacrafice our shows and what we do. It isn’t fair to us actors. I hope they saw, in our performance, how much we care about it and how we dont want it to end. I guess we have to hope we have it for at least another year.
